This wine is a testament to one of Rioja's historic grape varieties: Garnacha Blanca. Often undervalued due to its low yield, complex cultivation, and exquisite winemaking requirements, this Mediterranean variety offers surprising results in cool climates, with complex wines and exceptional acidity.
Before phylloxera, Garnacha Blanca had a significant presence in Rioja. However, after the changes of the 20th century, it was on the verge of extinction, at least officially. Its survival was due to its extreme resilience. In the most favorable areas of the vineyard, Tempranillo was planted primarily; in the "headlands" (the upper and poorer parts of the slopes), Viura predominated, while in the most extreme areas, with poor soils, surface rocks, and exposure to wind and ice, Garnacha Blanca was the last option, almost a final resort.
To make it, the wine ferments and ages for four months in new Hungarian oak, completing its aging with another four months in concrete tanks, which contributes to its unique character.
